In 2021, while a student at the University of Southern California, Yasmeen Mashayekh posted a series of Tweets under the handle @YFalasteen, in which she said:
- “I want to kill every motherfucking Zionist” (source)
- “Yes I fucking love hamas now stfu” (source)
- “Zionists are going to fucking pay” (source)
Each of these Tweets is an egregious violation of Twitter’s policies.
The disclosure of Mashayekh’s Twitter activity, by watchdog Canary Mission, and USC’s decision to take no punitive action against her — especially since was on the USC Viterbi Graduate Student “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” committee — gained significant coverage in certain sectors of the media:
