Op-Ed: Biden is Bad News for the State of Israel

Iranian writer Rajid Rafijzadeh wrote in the Gatestone Institute earlier this year, “One of the best gifts that the ruling mullah’s in Iran can receive is if Joe Biden wins the presidency.” Not too long after this report was written, MEMRI noted that the Qatari media outlet Al Quds Al Arabi, which is a known proxy for the Iranian regime, has referred to Trump as “irresponsible” after he was diagnosed with COVID-19. At the same time, Palestinian Media Watch documented that the Palestinian Authority has produced a video clip where they refer to Trump as a “monster’s tail”, who accompanies the “monster Benjamin Netanyahu.”

The Nazi philosopher Carl Schmitt once wrote in Theory on the Partisan: Commentary on the Concept of the Political, “Tell me who your enemy is, and I will tell you who you are.” In other words, the fact that Iran and the Palestinian Authority want Biden to win the US presidency is a major warning sign about what a Biden presidency means for the State of Israel.

As prominent Israeli Middle East scholar Dr. Mordechai Kedar noted: “Biden will be a disaster for the whole Middle East, for both he and his boss Obama led to the Middle East being devoured by Iran”. Former Israeli Communications Minister Ayoob Kara even took it a step further, proclaiming, “Obama-Biden is like Pharaoh. We do not need another Pharaoh”.

According to a recent op-ed that Biden wrote for CNN, he stated that under a Biden presidency, “If Iran returns to strict compliance with the nuclear deal, the United States will rejoin the agreement as a starting point for follow-on negotiations.” Kedar claims that if the US does this, a disaster will fall upon the entire world: “The more you appease the Iranians, the more you suffer. But Biden prefers a short-term policy rather than seeing the big picture”.

For this reason, Biden ignores the fact that the nuclear deal does not stop Iran from going nuclear, does nothing against their worldwide terrorist activity and their ballistic missile program that targets the US mainland, and does nothing to enhance the human rights of the Iranian people. Biden does not get how going back to that deal as a starting point is dangerous for the free world: “Many people warned Biden that the Iranian regime acts according to a different agenda. They do not want to be responsive in the western sense. They are only responsive to Allah and his demands to be the hegemon of the whole world. The problem is that the Biden administration did not and will not understand this, as they did not understand this in their previous terms. These people are motivated by ignorance of the Middle East”.

“If you appease a bully, you make a worse bully,” Kedar stressed. “Giving him responsibility won’t change that and they do not get it. They do not think logically. They think from an American way of thinking and they think that the Middle East acts according to what they believe. In America, if you are nice to someone, they will be nice to you. This is not how it works in the Middle East. In the Middle East, if you appease the bully, he becomes worse. If you are soft, you are giving a prize to the bad guy, hoping they will become a good guy. But bad guys do not become good guys in the Middle East. This is a hope without prospect. Baseless.”

If Biden wins the US elections, Kedar warned: “Iran will be able to maintain much heavier pressure on Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, etc. All the countries in the Middle East will be subject to Iran’s hegemony. That’s why those who support Iran cannot wait for Biden to return to the White House, while the victims of Iran very much fear Biden’s return to the White House. They are afraid that Biden’s policy of appeasement vis-à-vis the Iranians will only cause problems for everyone. Appeasing the Iranians is the worst thing you can do in the Middle East, for the disasters Iran will cause in the region will lead to a wave of refugees flooding America and Europe.” As former Israel Consul General Dr. Yitzhak Ben Gad noted, “Obama-Biden want to appease Iran, who says again and again that they want to wipe Israel and America off the map. They call America the Big Satan and Israel the Little Satan. This deal is not only a threat to Israel but the whole world”.

Aside from strengthening Iranian hegemony in the Middle East region, a Biden presidency will also undermine Israel’s peace prospects with the greater Arab world. Dr. Ben Gad stressed, “Trump understands that the PA demands such as dividing Jerusalem and returning the refugees are ridiculous”. For this reason, he stressed that Trump recognized that the city of Jerusalem and the Golan Heights are part of Israel, and put a preventative program in place where Israel could annex 30% of Judea and Samaria, so that the pressure will be on the Palestinian side to make reasonable demands. Thus, “Trump may have a big mouth, but he is good”. Trump was pivotal for the recent peace agreements between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates: “In contrast, Biden is senile and 77 years old. He could not remember Romney running for president”.

As former Minister Kara noted, when Bahraini Princess Fatima Al Khalifa received medical treatment in Israel in 2010, there was a great opportunity then for Israel to have expanded ties with the Persian Gulf countries. He noted that there was a great potential on this front that was reinforced when he went to Dubai for a conference of the World Communication Association: “I was the first Israeli minister to travel to Dubai and I was the focus. They liked that I spoke Arabic with an Arab accent. It was a pleasant surprise”. While the PA representative stormed out of the room, the other Arab countries did not follow: “I was the most popular minister in this conference. I told Netanyahu after the conference that we are ready for a peace process. The Palestinians are no longer relevant anymore. The Sunni Arab countries need our technologies and want us to be allies against Iran”.

Apparently, Kara tried to tell this to the Obama-Biden White House, but “no one wanted to arrange it. No one wanted to help”. However, he noted when Trump entered the White House, everything changed, and the US President was deeply committed to advancing Israel’s relationship with the Persian Gulf countries. He noted that this so far culminated in peace agreements between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, with Sudan and Oman likely following suite.

However, Kara warned, “If Biden is elected, the process changes and the direction goes back towards the Palestinian Authority. Biden will stop the entire peace process. Biden will try to give a state to Hamas and the Islamist groups supported by Iran. For the past four years, Trump created a new Middle East. How can we go back to Pharaoh?”
